The LaPorte Hospital Foundation Breast Cancer Detection Project is an established comprehensive effort for early detection of breast cancer in our service area through encouraging and educating adult women in early detection practices.  This particular effort will help provide screening mammograms to underserved women who meet ACS High Risk status as well as those forty years of age and older with particular focus on Latin American females in our community.  Mammograms are provided to women who are low-income, uninsured and who are without symptoms.  This program consists of two major parts:  education and breast health awareness as well as provisions of cost-free screening mammgrams to women who meet qualifying criteria.  The Northern Indiana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure funds comprehensive diagnostic testing, including bi-lateral and unilateral ultrasounds and follow-up mammograms.  2011 represents the sixth year of funding of this grant by the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust.
