The YWCA Women’s Cancer Program (WPC) is dedicated to educating all women about the importance of early detection in the fight against breast and cervical cancer by offering free educational presentations and awareness events.  The WCP facilitates access to medical services for clinical breast exams, Pap tests and mammograms for low-income, underserved, minority women in twenty-three counties in west-central Indiana.  This programs focuses on removing any and all barriers so the women can receive cancer screenings.  If a women qualifies for the program, the screening services are provided at no cost to the patient.  The WPC has established working relationships with 18 hospitals and over 100 providers who have agreed to see women referred by the WCP and accept Medicare rates.  The program offers transportation to appointments in Tippecanoe County and assistance with gas money in other counties, as well as translations service for Hispanic patients.  The program assists patients by scheduling their appointments, calling to remind patients of upcoming appointmnts and provides educational information.  If a woman needs additional diagnostic procedures, funding is available.  The YWCA also sponsors a breast cancer support group and offers patient navigations services to patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
